A word after the comic.

What is These Old Bones?
These Old Bones is a comic about debt. I know I have debt, and I am sure you do too, so I thought: What’s stopping debt collectors from collecting on a dead person? Death?! HA!
In the world of the comic, when someone dies in debt, the dead person's family has a choice to make: They could pay off the dead person’s debt or give the debtor’s remains to the company that is collecting on the debt. The dead person is then reanimated and put to work. The gas in their suits keeps them alive and allows them to do manual labor far beyond the strength of their former body. If they try to break the suit or end their after lives early, the company can just reanimate them and add the cost of the recovery to the debtor’s tab.
It’s an idea that started with a watercolor I painted a few years ago that still hangs in my house. Retirement is a joke for people my age, so I thought, why not immortalize that feeling with a skeleton in a heavy-working helmet? Thus, These Old Bones was born.
I am going to explore this world a bit through my newsletter. For how long, I don’t know, but it won’t be forever. I want this platform to be a place where I cultivate stories that I can gather to publish. Those stories will be either text, drawings, or maybe even a game or two! Who knows!
If you’re down to be here for the ride, thank you. I also want to hear from you, so I have enabled comments for this post. Let me know what you think of the future of this newsletter, and let’s chat!
As always, thank you for your time,
Nick Mazmanian
